Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams says he has not received any official resignation letter from Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, despite the Portuguese coach announcing his departure in a social media post.

Queiroz, 73, who was appointed on a short-term contract to lead Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after replacing Otto Addo, indicated online that he had left the role following the tournament, saying he “leaves his role with pride.”

However, speaking to Joy News, Adams insisted that the government and the Ghana Football Association would only recognise a formal resignation.

“We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don’t take it that people resign on social media. He wasn’t appointed on social media, so I don’t think that he resigned via social media,” the minister said.

Adams also disclosed that he is yet to hold discussions with Queiroz about Ghana’s World Cup campaign but expects the coach to submit a detailed technical report.

“We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that. We have not had the opportunity to engage him to get a detailed report. That report will surely come,” he said.

According to the minister, the report will help identify the technical and structural challenges facing the Black Stars and guide decisions on the team’s future.

He also agreed with Queiroz’s assessment that rebuilding the national team requires addressing both on-field and off-field issues.

“And he’s right when he says it’s not just going to be on the pitch. There are off-pitch issues, and there are on-pitch issues also. I’m happy he has stated it clearly,” Adams added.

Queiroz’s tenure ended after Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Although the Black Stars reached the knockout stage for the first time since 2010, they now turn their attention to preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
