Ghana midfielder Thomas Teye Partey is close to completing a move to Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab, according to Ghanasoccernet.

The 32-year-old arrived in Riyadh early Monday morning as he prepares to complete the final formalities of the transfer.

Partey is expected to undergo his mandatory medical examination before signing a one-year contract with the Saudi club.

The Ghana deputy captain will join Al Shabab as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Spanish side Villarreal, where he played during the 2025/26 season.

The move would mark another stage in Partey’s career after spells with Atletico Madrid and Arsenal. During his time in north London, he made 130 appearances and scored nine goals.

After leaving Arsenal in 2025, Partey joined Villarreal on a free transfer and featured in 25 matches across all competitions during his only season with the Spanish club.

Partey remains an important member of the Ghana national team and recently represented the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

He played in three matches as Ghana progressed to the Round of 32.

A move to Al Shabab would allow the experienced midfielder to remain active at club level ahead of Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, which is scheduled to begin in September.

With the Black Stars seeking a return to the AFCON after missing the previous tournament, Partey is expected to remain an important figure in the squad as preparations for the qualifiers begin.
