A fuel tanker has been engulfed in flames on the Tema Motorway in the early hours of Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
The incident was confirmed by the Ghana National Fire Service in a social media update on Tuesday.
In a post shared on its official Facebook page, the Fire Service said personnel from three fire stations had been deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.
“HAPPENING NOW: A fuel tanker has caught fire on the motorway, with the Motorway, Ashaiman & Tema Regional Headquarters Fire Stations responding to the incident,” the service stated.
A video shared by the Fire Service showed the tanker completely engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing into the air.
The footage also suggested that the tanker may have been involved in an accident, as it appeared overturned by the roadside.
Firefighters were seen battling the blaze and attempting to prevent it from spreading.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities have not yet reported any casualties.
Emergency response efforts are ongoing as firefighters work to bring the situation under control and ensure the safety of motorists using the motorway.
