The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has unveiled a reshaped technical and support structure for the country’s national teams, with several former Black Stars players and coaches taking on new responsibilities.
Among the notable changes is the appointment of former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan as Clubs and Player Relations Manager for the senior national team.
Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 international goals, will be responsible for strengthening communication between the Black Stars, players and their clubs. His role will also include supporting player welfare and engagement.
The former striker captained Ghana at three FIFA World Cups and is now set to bring his experience from the international stage into the team’s administrative and support structure.
Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil is also moving into a new role. He has been reassigned from the senior national team to the Black Satellites, where he will serve as Assistant Coach.
Paintsil will join the U20 technical team as Ghana prepares for next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
Another significant change sees former Ghana international Godwin Attram appointed as an Assistant Coach of the Black Stars, replacing Desmond Ofei.
Attram, who played for clubs including PSV Eindhoven and Silkeborg IF, has previously worked in coaching, including a spell as head coach of Great Olympics and roles with Ghana’s youth national teams.
Ofei, meanwhile, will now concentrate fully on the Black Meteors as head coach. He had previously combined his responsibilities with duties involving the Black Stars and the U20 national team.
The GFA has also reassigned former Black Stars Team Manager Ameenu Shardow, who has been appointed Head of the association’s Strategic Diaspora Programme.
In the new position, Shardow will lead efforts to identify and engage Ghanaian players based abroad while building stronger relationships with diaspora clubs, academies and communities.
The GFA says the restructuring is part of a broader effort to improve focus, coordination and efficiency across Ghana’s various national teams.
The changes bring together new responsibilities for experienced former internationals and coaches as the association seeks to strengthen its technical and support structures across the national-team system.
