Asante Kotoko stand-in coach Diogo Peral could face further disciplinary action from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after being sent off for punching Medeama SC defender Eben Adade during their Ghana Premier League encounter on Sunday.
The incident occurred at the Baba Yara Stadium during a heated confrontation near Kotoko’s technical area.
Adade, who plays as a left-back for the defending champions, had moved quickly to retrieve a ball that went out of play close to the home side’s dugout when tensions flared between him and Peral.
During the ensuing exchange, the Medeama defender pushed the Portuguese coach to the ground. Peral got back to his feet and retaliated by punching Adade in the face.
The referee responded by showing Peral a straight red card for his involvement in the altercation, leaving the Kotoko technical team to deal with his dismissal.
Although the incident disrupted proceedings, Kotoko managed to avoid defeat, fighting back to secure a 1-1 draw against the Tarkwa-based club.
However, Peral could face a more serious consequence beyond his dismissal, as the incident is expected to attract the attention of the GFA’s disciplinary authorities.
The association could review the circumstances surrounding the confrontation and determine whether additional sanctions should be imposed on the Kotoko coach.
