Veteran broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi has declared his support for former Black Stars captain André “Dede” Ayew to become the next president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), should the footballer decide to contest the position.

Sefa Kayi believes a change in leadership could bring fresh ideas to Ghanaian football and help address concerns about the sport’s fortunes.

He made his position known during a light-hearted discussion with sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning Show, where he expressed hope that Ayew would announce his intentions early if he planned to enter the race.

The broadcaster also appealed to Ghanaians to rally behind the former national team captain if he decides to pursue the position, saying he would be watching developments closely.

“If he has not declared, then I am declaring for him. Kwaku, if Dede decides to contest, I will support him, and I wish everybody would do the same so that there will be changes. For this, I have declared that I am not saying I am biased. For this, I have an interest,” Sefa Kayi said amid laughter during the discussion.

His comments come amid media speculation linking Ayew to a possible bid for the GFA presidency. The former Black Stars captain, however, has not publicly confirmed any intention to contest the position.

Ayew’s continued involvement in Ghanaian football has also drawn attention. His support for the national teams and appearances at Ghana Premier League matches have contributed to discussions about whether he could eventually take up a role in football administration.

For now, the prospect of an Ayew presidency remains speculative, with no formal declaration from the player. Sefa Kayi’s comments, however, have added to the growing public conversation about the future leadership of Ghana football.
