11 injured as Koforidua City FC team bus crashes

At least 11 people have reportedly been injured after a bus transporting players and officials of Koforidua City FC was involved in a road accident at Saforo in the Eastern Region.

The incident occurred on Sunday, November 1, 2026, as the Division Two side travelled to honour a Ghana league fixture against Shacor Supper Stars FC.

Seven players are among those receiving medical attention at the hospital following the crash.

According to a report by Sporty FM, the injured passengers were rushed to Mampong Hospital for treatment.

The bus was carrying 20 players, three club officials, the driver and his mate when the accident happened.

The exact circumstances that led to the crash remain unclear. There is also limited information about the nature of the injuries sustained and the current condition of those receiving treatment.

The accident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of football teams travelling for domestic league matches, particularly clubs competing in Ghana’s lower divisions.

Many lower-tier clubs operate under financial and logistical constraints, which can make arranging reliable transportation for players and officials during away fixtures challenging.

It is not yet known whether the scheduled match between Koforidua City FC and Shacor Supper Stars FC will be rescheduled following the incident.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is yet to issue an official statement on the accident.
