Preaching in the Ability to See series on the Nkwagye Kwan radio program, Dr Kuuku Dadzie Ephraim warned that God’s instruction against alcohol consumption is intended for the protection and well-being of human beings, arguing that alcohol was not created by God but became part of human life through fermentation and human preference for drinking it.
He said continuous alcohol consumption can become destructive, affecting people regardless of their social status, education, wealth, or occupation, and also opens the door to the “demon of alcohol.”
Dr Kuuku Dadzie further added that the use of alcohol by both traditionalists and some Christian preachers can create the impression that God and evil spirits endorse the same practices, but maintained that God’s ways are fundamentally different from demonic practices.
According to him, traditional spiritual practices frequently involve alcohol, particularly in libation, rituals, and appeals to ancestors, making alcohol a recurring element in traditional ceremonies and spiritual activities.
He cited various occasions including festivals, family meetings, marriages, child-naming ceremonies, funerals, expressions of gratitude, appeasement rituals and traditional healing as examples where alcohol is commonly used in traditional settings.
Dr Kuuku Dadzie therefore urged people to recognize what he described as the spiritual and destructive dangers associated with alcohol and to reject its consumption, emphasizing that, in his view, God does not use alcohol and does not want His people to have anything to do with it.
