France stars Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe are rewriting the FIFA World Cup record

France stars Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe are rewriting the FIFA World Cup record books after emerging as the most prolific attacking partnership at the 2026 tournament.

According to Opta, the duo have combined for six goal involvements in France’s first four matches, the highest total by an attacking pair at a single World Cup since records dating back to the 1966 edition.

Dembele has provided four assists for Mbappe, while Mbappe has returned the favour with two assists for his teammate, underlining the remarkable chemistry between the two forwards.

Their partnership has been central to France’s impressive campaign, with Mbappe leading the scoring charts after netting six goals in four matches.

Dembele, meanwhile, has established himself as the tournament’s leading assist provider, consistently creating chances with his pace, dribbling and pinpoint deliveries from the right flank.

France have enjoyed a dominant run at the tournament, winning all three of their group-stage matches while scoring 10 goals before defeating Sweden 3-0 in the Round of 32 on July 3.

Les Bleus will now face Paraguay in the Round of 16 on July 5 as they continue their quest to retain the World Cup trophy.

The partnership between Dembele and Mbappe has been built on complementary qualities, with Dembele’s creativity and ability to unlock defences combining perfectly with Mbappe’s intelligent movement, pace and clinical finishing.

Their record-breaking performances have played a key role in France’s title defence and have further strengthened their status as one of the most dangerous attacking duos in world football.

With the knockout stages intensifying, Dembele and Mbappe will be aiming to continue their historic partnership as France pursue a third FIFA World Cup title and seek to become the first nation since Brazil in 1962 to successfully defend the trophy.
