Former Asante Kotoko head coach Isaac Opeele Boateng says he sees little difference between Carlos Queiroz and Otto Addo in their performances as Black Stars head coaches.

According to Opeele, Otto Addo failed to convince him as a coach during his tenure, adding that he was among his strongest critics. However, he now believes the two coaches have produced similar results with the national team.

Despite the comparison, Opeele said Queiroz deserves credit for getting the best out of what he described as one of the weakest Black Stars squads in the country’s history.

He pointed to Ghana’s performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team qualified for the Round of 32 despite Queiroz having limited time to prepare after taking charge.

“Don’t get me wrong. Otto Addo was not good. I used to criticize him, but I don’t see any difference between Carlos and Addo. The only difference is Carlos making good use of the worst Black Stars team we have ever seen in history at the World Cup. That gives Carlos a plus,” Opeele wrote on X on June 28, 2026.

The former coach also praised Otto Addo’s attacking style of play, noting that it enabled Ghana to score freely during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“Otto Addo scored five goals at the World Cup 2022. Otto Addo is the only coach to score three goals in 90 minutes at the World Cup. You think if you don’t play free-flowing attack you can score five goals in a group stage?” he wrote.

Opeele’s comments sparked debate on social media, with some fans accusing him of contradicting himself by criticising Otto Addo while simultaneously highlighting his achievements.

However, the former Kotoko coach stood by his assessment, insisting that Queiroz’s ability to maximise the current squad is what sets him apart from his predecessor.
