Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is reportedly set to remain in charge beyond the short-term contract he signed for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to veteran sports journalist Michael Oti Adjei, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is in talks with the Portuguese coach to finalise a new deal.
Oti Adjei said the GFA is keen to end the frequent changes in coaching personnel, believing continuity will help establish a consistent playing philosophy and improve the team’s performance.
He added that Queiroz’s display at the 2026 World Cup convinced GFA officials that he is the right man to lead Ghana into the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
“Basically, Queiroz was given a four-month contract to coach the Black Stars during the World Cup. His target was to get the team out of the group stage and potentially reach the quarterfinals. The quarterfinal didn’t happen, but victory over Panama and a draw against England got Ghana through to the knockout stage.
“The GFA then had to make a decision. Here is why they decided Queiroz will stay: the Black Stars are seeking to qualify for the Nations Cup in September. They failed to qualify for the last Nations Cup. The thinking of the GFA leadership is that if they change coaches now, a new coach would need time to adapt and implement a new philosophy. Ghana cannot afford to miss another Nations Cup. So Carlos Queiroz will stay as Black Stars coach,” he said in a post on X.
Queiroz has managed five matches since taking charge of the Black Stars, recording one win, two draws and two defeats, while guiding Ghana to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
