Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has disclosed that he sold his luxury properties in the United States and the United Kingdom to focus entirely on building his businesses in Nigeria.
Speaking in a video shared on X on July 12, 2026, Dangote said the move was motivated by his desire to remain in Nigeria and devote his full attention to expanding his industrial empire.
“When I decided to go into industry, I sold all my properties in the USA. I had two houses; a big mansion in the USA and UK. I sold them all because I really wanted to sit in Nigeria and concentrate,” he said.
The founder of the Dangote Group added that he now lives a relatively simple lifestyle, preferring to stay in hotels during his travels instead of maintaining multiple homes abroad.
“My life is very simple. Wherever I go I use hotels and I pay, and nobody will call me and ask me for home maintenance,” he said.
Widely regarded as Africa’s richest man, Dangote has built a business empire spanning cement, sugar, salt, fertiliser and petroleum refining.
His investments have played a key role in boosting Nigeria’s manufacturing sector and reducing the country’s dependence on imported goods.
