Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz believes Ghana’s long-term football success will depend as much on improving structures off the pitch as on performances on it.
Reflecting on Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in a message posted on his official Facebook page, the Portuguese coach said building the right environment is essential to unlocking the country’s football potential.
“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Black Stars success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent,” Queiroz wrote.
The 73-year-old said sustainable success requires investment in systems that support players before they step onto the field, arguing that Ghana must strengthen its football structures to compete consistently with the world’s top nations.
Although the Black Stars reached the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Queiroz insisted the achievement should serve as a foundation for greater ambitions rather than a final destination.
“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more. Reaching a higher level should never be the destination, it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions,” he said.
The former Portugal, Iran and Egypt coach also expressed gratitude to the Ghana Football Association, his players, technical staff and supporters for their commitment throughout the tournament.
Queiroz’s message has fuelled speculation over his future, with many supporters interpreting it as a farewell following Ghana’s World Cup exit.
However, the Ghana Football Association has yet to issue an official statement on whether the Portuguese tactician will continue as Black Stars head coach.
