The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested six people suspected of belonging to an armed robbery gang accused of attacking victims, forcing them to disclose their Mobile Money (MoMo) PINs and transferring funds from their accounts.
The arrests followed months of intelligence-led operations targeting a series of robbery incidents reported in parts of the Wa West District and Wa Municipality.
According to the Police, the suspects allegedly attacked victims and inflicted machete wounds before forcing them to provide their MoMo PINs. The PINs were then allegedly used to transfer money from the victims’ accounts into accounts controlled by the suspects.
The suspects have been identified as Amadu Moro, 35, Adama Yussif, 40, Nasiru Abdul Rahman, 52, who is deceased, Iddrissu Adama, 35, Korika Issaka, 20, and Zakaria Brigi, 21.
Preliminary investigations have linked Moro, Yussif and the deceased Abdul Rahman to several robbery incidents recorded between March and August 2026.
The Police said the incidents occurred at Kpenateng Junction, Kulkpara-Dapoha, Kpenateng Community and Piisi-Dapoha, with the latest reported on August 1, 2026.
Investigators estimate that the gang allegedly stole about GH¢22,070 in cash from victims. An additional GH¢3,274 was allegedly transferred through the victims’ MoMo accounts.
Seven mobile phones have also been recovered from the suspects and have been handed over for examination as investigations continue.
During the operation, Abdul Rahman sustained injuries and died after he was taken to the Upper West Regional Hospital. His body has since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary pending preservation and autopsy.
The Police said two other suspects believed to be connected to the group remain at large.
They are Haruna, 30, who is alleged to have served as the gang’s armourer, and Amadu Mahamudu, 24, the son of the deceased suspect.
The Upper West Regional Police Command said efforts have been intensified to locate and arrest the two wanted suspects as investigations into the robbery cases continue.
