The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially named its national headquarters after its founder and former President, Jerry John Rawlings, in recognition of his contribution to the party and Ghana’s democratic development.
The decision was announced during a ceremony held in Accra on June 22, 2026, where party executives, government officials and supporters gathered to honour the legacy of the late statesman.
The headquarters will now be known as “Jerry John Rawlings House.”
Addressing the gathering, NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey described Rawlings as a visionary leader whose sacrifices and commitment laid the foundation for the growth and success of the party.
“The NDC would not have come this far without the leadership and legacy of Jerry John Rawlings,” he said.
Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga also used the occasion to call for unity within the party, stressing the need for members to work together in advancing the NDC’s objectives.
National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah explained that Rawlings had resisted attempts to have institutions named after him during his lifetime. However, following consultations and a review of practices in other countries, the party concluded that dedicating its headquarters to him was an appropriate way to honour his legacy.
President John Dramani Mahama later unveiled a plaque bearing Rawlings’ name, formally dedicating the building as “Jerry John Rawlings House.”
The event concluded with tributes highlighting Rawlings’ enduring influence on the NDC and his role in shaping Ghana’s democratic journey.
Rawlings, who founded the NDC and served as President of Ghana, remains one of the most influential figures in the country’s political history.
