The family of former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has alleged that she was shot at while attempting to serve court documents seeking to stop the installation of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, as leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

The claim follows reports from a lawyer and some church officials who alleged that Adwoa Safo fired the first gunshot, triggering the confrontation.

However, in a statement issued on June 22, 2026, the Kwadwo Safo family rejected those claims and maintained that Adwoa Safo was the target of the attack.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at a property linked to Israel Safo, where supporters had gathered for a planned installation ceremony to name him successor to the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

The family said the ceremony was being organised despite what it described as succession directives left by the late founder and a court order obtained by two church members to halt the process.

According to the statement, several attempts to serve the court injunction on Israel Safo had failed, prompting Adwoa Safo to personally deliver the documents.

The family alleged that the effort resulted in a violent confrontation.

“During the encounter, Mr Israel Safo discharged a firearm multiple times in her direction and also instructed associates at the scene to open fire on her vehicle,” the statement alleged.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that about 15 rounds of ammunition were discharged during the incident.

The family further stated that Adwoa Safo, whom it described as the duly recognised head of the Kwadwo Safo family, is in stable condition and responding positively to medical treatment.

It also confirmed that the matter has been reported to law enforcement authorities for investigation.

The incident has intensified the ongoing dispute surrounding the leadership succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of its founder, Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
