Two people have been killed while two mobile money vendors sustained gunshot wounds following an armed robbery attack at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region.
The injured vendors, both young women, are receiving treatment at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital and are said to be responding to medical care.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
According to residents, the incident occurred at about 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, when three armed men, reportedly carrying AK-47 rifles, stormed the area and attacked the mobile money operators.
Witnesses said the robbers fired multiple gunshots indiscriminately to scare residents before making away with about GH¢40,000.
During the attack, a stray bullet reportedly struck and killed a resident identified as Ibrahim, who had come out to observe the commotion.
Residents also discovered the body of a man identified as Fulani at the scene, whom they suspect was one of the armed robbers. The two other suspects reportedly escaped after the robbery.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that police officers had visited the crime scene and investigations were underway.
Meanwhile, the Sunyani West Municipal Chief Executive, Kwasi Asante Boateng, has visited the bereaved family of Ibrahim to offer his condolences.
He also visited the two injured mobile money vendors at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital, where he wished them a speedy recovery.
Boateng assured residents that the Sunyani West Municipal Security Committee was working closely with the police and other security agencies to strengthen security in the municipality and urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
