Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced plans to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the constituency, signalling her intention to return to the political contest in the area.

In a statement dated Thursday, October 22, 2026, Safo said the decision followed consultations with party leaders, constituency executives and other stakeholders, alongside personal reflection on her political future.

She said she would formally present herself for consideration as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for Dome-Kwabenya once the party announces the timetable and guidelines for its parliamentary primaries.

“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation and broad-based engagement with party leadership and executives and guided by my own conviction and unwavering loyalty to the principles and values of our political tradition, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency,” she stated.

Why she wants to return to Dome-Kwabenya

Safo acknowledged that she had previously indicated an interest in pursuing political opportunities outside Dome-Kwabenya. However, she said further reflection had reinforced her desire to continue serving the constituency.

She described representing the area in Parliament as a significant responsibility, pointing to its population of more than 200,000 people and her longstanding connection with residents.

“Upon deeper reflection, I have come to appreciate that there is no greater honour or responsibility than serving and representing the interests and aspirations of the over two hundred thousand constituents of our beloved constituency in Parliament,” she said.

The former legislator said her decision was driven by her commitment to the people and her belief that she still had more to contribute to the constituency’s development.

Safo reflects on 12 years in Parliament

Safo also highlighted her 12 years of parliamentary service, during which she said she worked with residents, party members, community leaders, religious leaders and other stakeholders to address local development challenges.

She presented that experience as part of the basis for her decision to seek the party’s nomination once again.

Her announcement sets the stage for a potential contest for the NPP parliamentary candidacy in Dome-Kwabenya, although the party’s official timetable and guidelines for the primaries are yet to be announced in the statement.

For now, Safo has made her intention clear: she wants another opportunity to represent Dome-Kwabenya in Parliament under the NPP banner.
