Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has praised the early impact of new Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca, saying the squad is already adapting well to the Italian coach’s methods ahead of the new season.
Maresca, who replaced Pep Guardiola earlier this summer, is approaching his second week in charge as City continue their pre-season tour of Asia.
Speaking after the team arrived in Hong Kong, Semenyo described the new manager as highly detailed and said his coaching style has quickly impressed the players.
“Very good, very detailed,” Semenyo said when asked about Maresca’s training sessions.
“He’s got an eye for detail, and he wants everything to be right, which is quite similar to Pep. That’s good for us as players, so we’ve enjoyed it so far.”
Manchester City are in Hong Kong for the opening leg of their Asia Tour, where they are scheduled to face Inter before travelling to South Korea to play a K League All Stars team and Atlético Madrid as part of their preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.
Semenyo also expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome the squad received from supporters upon arriving in Hong Kong, describing it as a reflection of City’s worldwide popularity.
“The club are global and have a lot of fans. Getting to the hotel from the airport and seeing so many people welcoming us shows the great support we have out here, and we look forward to playing in front of them,” he said.
The Black Stars attacker believes facing elite opposition during pre-season will help City prepare for the challenges that lie ahead in both domestic and European competitions.
“It prepares the players here for the season ahead. There’s a lot of tough teams in the Premier League and Champions League, and Inter and Atlético are two of those, so we know that playing those at this stage is a good test for us,” he added.
Semenyo, who has made 27 appearances for City since joining the club in January, said he has fully recovered from last season and is eager to begin the new campaign.
“My body feels good. I like to think I’m well rested. The manager gave me a couple of weeks to relax and reset, so I’m happy to be back with the boys and looking forward to the new season,” he said.
