Black Queens winger Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has expressed confidence in Ghana’s readiness ahead of the team’s opening match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), saying the squad is eager to get its campaign underway.
Ghana will begin its Group D campaign against Cape Verde on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, following weeks of intensive preparations for the continental tournament.
Speaking ahead of the opening fixture, Boye-Hlorkah said the players are excited to finally kick off their quest for WAFCON glory.
“Wednesday is important; it’s the start of the WAFCON. Us girls are really excited; we’ve been waiting for it,” she said.
The winger believes the Black Queens have prepared adequately and are ready to put in strong performances.
“I think we’ve prepared really well. We had a good time out here last year, so now we’re prepared to come back and do our job,” she added.
Boye-Hlorkah also highlighted the unity within the squad, saying the players have developed strong chemistry throughout the team’s preparations.
“We’ve gelled well as a team. We’re coming together; we’ve put the training sessions in,” she noted.
She further commended the technical team, particularly the fitness coach, for ensuring the players are physically prepared for the demands of the competition.
“As coach said, we’ve got a good fitness coach who’s put us through our paces, and we’re ready to get going,” Boye-Hlorkah stated.
The Black Queens will be aiming to make a strong start against Cape Verde as they seek to progress from Group D and challenge for continental honours at the 2026 WAFCON.
