Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has eased concerns over Antoine Semenyo's fitness

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has eased concerns over Antoine Semenyo’s fitness after the forward limped off late in Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Croatia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana finished third in Group L following Saturday’s defeat but still progressed to the Round of 32.

Concern grew late in the game when Semenyo went down inside the Croatian penalty area and appeared to be in discomfort. The Bournemouth forward received treatment on the pitch before playing through to the final whistle.

However, Queiroz dismissed fears of a serious injury after the match.

“No, it’s just a knock; he will be alright,” he told reporters.

Reflecting on the defeat, the Portuguese coach said defensive mistakes proved costly against Croatia.

“Croatia scored two goals, two easy goals. They came much too easily with the way they scored. When you score one more goal than the opponent, you have the merit to win the game.

“Simple as that. It means we made one more mistake than the opponent, and when you make one more mistake than the opponent, that is it.”

Ghana will now turn their attention to their Round of 32 clash against Colombia at Kansas City Stadium on Saturday, with Semenyo expected to be available for selection.
