Gideon Mensah says Ghana’s upcoming friendly against Wales will be an important test ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Ghana national football team have opened camp in Cardiff as they prepare for the tournament, which will be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Under head coach Carlos Queiroz, Ghana will face Wales on June 2 before taking on Jamaica in another international friendly.
Queiroz is also expected to announce his final 26-man squad before the Wales match.
Speaking on the Ghana Football Association website, Mensah said the team is focused on proving its readiness for the World Cup.
“The expectation is very clear for me as a player, and then we as a team, we are working towards a very crucial tournament for us, for the country and for ourselves as players,” he said.
“So, I mean, we are expecting that we go into the game, show to the Ghanaians and show to ourselves that we are ready to go and compete with whoever comes against us in the World Cup.”
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium.
Ghana will then take on Croatia on June 27 at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Black Stars are hoping to reach the knockout stage for the first time since the 2010 World Cup after group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022.
