The Ghana Police Service has cautioned final-year students sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) against engaging in violence, vandalism and other unlawful acts as they complete their final paper on Friday, June 19, 2026.
The warning follows the arrest of six students in separate incidents in the Upper East Region involving alleged acts of arson, rioting, assault and destruction of property.
In a statement issued on June 18, 2026, the Police stressed that students found participating in criminal activities, including rioting, arson, assault, destruction of property and other offences, would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
According to the Service, involvement in such acts could have serious and long-term consequences on the future prospects of the students concerned.
The Police disclosed that two students of Zebilla Senior High Technical School were arrested in connection with an alleged arson attack on a teacher’s apartment.
In a separate case, four students of Bawku Senior High School were arrested for their alleged involvement in rioting, assaulting members of staff and causing damage to both school and private property.
The Service urged candidates to celebrate the completion of their examinations responsibly and avoid actions that could bring them into conflict with the law.
“The Police remain committed to ensuring public safety and will take appropriate action against anyone found violating the law,” the statement noted.
The Police further appealed to parents, guardians, teachers and school authorities to support efforts aimed at promoting discipline, respect for the law and responsible behaviour among students during the post-examination period.
Authorities believe the cooperation of all stakeholders will help ensure a peaceful end to the examination season while safeguarding lives and property across the country.
