The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested 10 students of Koforidua Technical University (KTU) over their alleged involvement in the production and sale of cannabis-infused drinks and ice cream during the university’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week celebrations.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on the university campus between Friday, July 31, and Saturday, August 1, 2026.
In a statement, NACOC identified 23-year-old Priscilla Tetteh as the suspected ringleader of the group, which also includes nine young men.
According to the Commission, the suspects allegedly operated an organized distribution network that sold cannabis-laced food and beverages to unsuspecting students and patrons attending the celebrations before officers moved in to halt the operation.
NACOC expressed concern over what it described as the growing trend of young people disguising the sale of illegal substances as entrepreneurship and entertainment.
The Commission stressed that tertiary institutions should remain centres for learning and personal development, not hubs for illicit drug activities.
It also reminded the public that the manufacture, sale and distribution of cannabis-infused foods, drinks and other consumables remain illegal under Ghanaian law and warned that offenders would face the full force of the law.
NACOC commended its officers for successfully carrying out the operation without incident and pledged to intensify surveillance to dismantle similar drug networks operating in schools and other communities.
The Commission further urged parents, university authorities and the public to report suspicious drug-related activities to help combat the spread of narcotics among young people.
All 10 suspects remain in custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court after investigations are completed.
