Private legal practitioner and New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member Kwesi Botchway Jnr has accused the government of using the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) investigations under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative to target political opponents.

He argued that the initiative, which was established to investigate alleged financial wrongdoing and recover state resources, had instead become politically motivated in some of the cases being pursued.

Speaking on The Pulse on JoyNews on August 20, 2026, Botchway said the manner in which some cases were being handled suggested that political considerations were influencing the government’s anti-corruption efforts.

“I don’t think that ORAL is really doing anything. ORAL is struggling. I think that ORAL is only a tool for political convenience and just a tool to hound political opponents,” he said.

Botchway specifically questioned the government’s handling of the case involving former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer Sedina Christine Tamakloe-Attionu.

He criticised the decision to challenge her acquittal and discharge, arguing that the move appeared to be driven more by political pressure than legal considerations.

“The entire Sadinam Tamakulu and the desire of the government to contest her acquittal and discharge, I see it as a political charade, I see it as something that they are just doing to reduce the uproar that was associated with the woman’s acquittal and discharge,” he said.

ORAL was established by the John Dramani Mahama administration as an anti-corruption initiative intended to investigate suspected financial misconduct, recover allegedly misappropriated state funds and strengthen accountability within the public sector.

Botchway’s comments, however, suggest that the initiative is facing criticism from the opposition over the way its investigations and related prosecutions are being pursued.
