A woman accused of sexually assaulting an Uber driver alongside two others has attempted to explain the alleged incident, claiming that a lack of attention from men contributed to their actions.
Speaking on Kasapa FM, the woman said she and her companions had struggled to attract men for relationships and claimed that when opportunities for sexual encounters arose, they took them as a way of satisfying themselves.
She questioned why the Uber driver, known as Kwame, had chosen to make the alleged incident public and asked whether he had not enjoyed the encounter.
“I have not got any man coming my way for us to be in a relationship. That is what we also do to make ourselves happy. We wouldn’t say that because men are scared of approaching us, we wouldn’t have sex. After having sex with us, didn’t he enjoy it?” she said.
The woman also speculated that men could be reluctant to approach them because of their appearance, body shapes or perceived social status.
“I don’t know why men are scared to approach us, but I assume it’s because of how we are, how our bodies and class are,” she noted.
She explained that there were occasions when the women dressed up and went out hoping to meet potential partners, insisting that their intention was not to engage in prostitution.
“Sometimes, we can dress up and step out, not to say we are into prostitution, but because we want a man in our lives,” she said.
The woman further claimed that the Uber driver was not the first man to allegedly experience such treatment from the group.
According to her, two other men had allegedly been subjected to similar encounters but had not spoken publicly about them.
“We are starving for men to have sex with us, and that is why, if we get any chance, we grab it. He is not the only person who is a victim. He is about the third man we have done that to, so why haven’t the other two men taken the issue to the public?” she asked.
Her comments follow an account given by the Uber driver, who alleged that he was sexually assaulted by three women at an apartment in East Legon Hills.
Uber driver recounts alleged assault
In an interview with Kasapa FM, the driver, who lives in Kasoa Budumburam, said the three women initially contacted him through Uber to transport them to East Legon Hills.
He said he interacted with them during the trip and later agreed to return the following morning to take them back to Kasoa.
“There are three women who live in the neighbourhood that I’m not too familiar with. They requested my services to take them to East Legon Hills, and because of the nature of Uber, you mostly don’t get trips when operating in Kasoa,” he narrated.
According to the driver, after arriving at the destination, the women asked him to briefly enter the apartment so he could familiarise himself with the location before returning the following morning.
He alleged that the situation changed after he entered the apartment, claiming that one of the women locked the door and took away the keys.
“Immediately, I entered the apartment; one of the women locked the door and took away the keys. All three women were well-built and stout, while I am smallish, so they overpowered me and began running their hands all over my body,” he said.
The driver said he pleaded with the women to let him leave but alleged that they ignored his requests.
He further claimed that one of the women pinned his legs against the bed while the three allegedly took turns sexually assaulting him.
“I asked to leave immediately, but they ignored my pleas. One of them pinned my legs against the bed, making me unable to move, while all three of them took turns having their way with me,” he disclosed.
The driver said the alleged incident left him physically weak and unable to immediately resume his activities.
“I couldn’t move after the ordeal because I was weak after the encounter. I dragged myself slowly into my car, where I managed to sleep for about two hours,” he said.
The accounts from the two sides remain allegations, with the driver describing the encounter as a sexual assault while one of the women involved has offered a different account and justification for what allegedly occurred.
