The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced the opening of its declaration of interest process for members seeking to contest parliamentary seats on the party’s ticket in the 2028 general election.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, said the registration portal would be open from November 1 to November 10, 2026, giving interested members 10 days to formally express their intention to become parliamentary candidates.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, Koduah explained that the exercise was the initial stage of the party’s parliamentary candidate selection process.

He said the registration would enable the party to assess prospective aspirants and determine whether they met the requirements under the NPP’s constitution and the laws of Ghana.

“What this simply means is that the party will, from November 1 to November 10, open our portal for any interested person who wants to be nominated to stand on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party,” he stated.

Koduah, however, stressed that the declaration of interest process should not be mistaken for the formal opening of nominations.

He clarified that prospective candidates would not be authorised to begin campaigning in their constituencies during this period.

“We have told you we are not opening nominations. We have not asked people to go round to campaign. This is just a first step towards the process of opening nominations,” he said.

Applicants will be required to pay GH¢5,000 to complete the registration process.

As part of its preparations, the party has also scheduled a series of training and capacity-building workshops for prospective parliamentary aspirants across three geographical zones.

According to Koduah, the workshops will take place in December 2026, with the country divided into northern, middle and southern zones.

The first workshop is scheduled for December 1 to 4, followed by the northern zone session from December 8 to 11. The southern zone workshop will then take place from December 15 to 18.

The party says the activities are part of its broader preparations for selecting parliamentary candidates ahead of the 2028 elections.

Koduah urged interested members to take note of the registration window and complete the declaration of interest process before the November 10 deadline.

He said the announcement was intended to inform party members and all individuals considering contesting parliamentary seats on the NPP ticket.
