Heavy traffic builds up at Ofankor

A deadly multiple-vehicle crash at the Ofankor Barrier on the Accra-Kumasi Highway has left 11 people dead and 13 others injured, triggering severe traffic congestion along the busy stretch.

The crash occurred on Thursday dawn, August 13, 2026, on the express lane of the N6 highway. The vehicles involved were two tipper trucks, a minibus and a tricycle.

The impact badly damaged the minibus, trapping several passengers inside the wreckage and forcing emergency responders into a major rescue operation.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were deployed to the scene to assist with the rescue and safely remove victims from the mangled vehicles.

Reports indicate that several people sustained serious injuries in the crash, while emergency teams worked to get the trapped victims out of the wreckage.

The severity of the collision caused heavy congestion around the Ofankor Barrier, with motorists facing significant delays as security and emergency personnel worked to clear the road.

The incident has also raised fresh concerns about road safety on the busy Accra-Kumasi Highway, particularly around sections where heavy commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles operate alongside one another.

Authorities and emergency responders remained at the scene as efforts continued to clear the affected stretch and assist those injured.

Motorists using the route have been urged to exercise caution and consider alternative routes where possible while the operation continues.
