Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has disclosed that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz receives a monthly salary of $80,000, putting to rest widespread speculation over his pay.
Since Queiroz’s appointment by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), reports have claimed the veteran coach was earning $100,000 each month. The claims sparked calls from sports journalists and members of the public for the government and football authorities to disclose the exact figure in the interest of transparency.
Speaking after Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Adams clarified that the reports were inaccurate.
“Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month and not $100,000 as speculated,” the minister said.
Adams also reflected on the timing of the coaching change that preceded the tournament, describing the delayed dismissal of former Black Stars coach Otto Addo as a major concern.
According to him, he would have preferred that Addo had been relieved of his duties much earlier if the decision had rested solely with him, arguing that it would have given Queiroz more time to settle into the role and prepare the team.
“If the decision were mine alone, I would have sacked Otto Addo much earlier during the qualifiers,” Adams said, as quoted by TV3.
Despite the change in leadership, Ghana’s World Cup journey ended in the Round of 32 after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia, leaving many supporters disappointed.
Meanwhile, reports suggest the GFA is preparing to extend Queiroz’s contract, with the experienced coach expected to lead the Black Stars’ qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
