Broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere has defended his legal credentials following claims that he is not qualified to practise law in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on May 17, 2026, Adom-Otchere stated that he holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Ghana and insisted that he is indeed a lawyer.
“There are people who were in class with me. Yes, I studied law. I have a law degree from the University of Ghana, an LLB. I was in the second batch of postgraduate students in 2021. So, that is about it,” he said.
According to him, the questions surrounding his legal background are politically motivated and largely driven by his critics.
Adom-Otchere argued that the same standard being used against him should also apply to National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart Prof Kwamena Ahwoi, who is widely recognised as a respected legal scholar.
“So, one day they said I’m not a lawyer, then I said to them, ‘If I’m not a lawyer, Kwamena Ahwoi too is not a lawyer.’ Nobody has come back after that. And I say it again, if I’m not a lawyer, then Kwamena Ahwoi, they call him a law professor, he too is not a lawyer,” he argued.
When asked whether his law degree alone qualifies him to practise law in Ghana, Adom-Otchere responded by questioning whether Prof Ahwoi would equally be considered qualified to practise.
“If Kwamena Ahwoi wants to practise, can he?” he asked.
