Emotions overwhelmed family members of Asante Akyem North MP Ohene Kwame Frimpong, popularly known as OK Frimpong, after news of his arrest in the Netherlands became public.
When the media visited the family home of the lawmaker, a close relative identified as Abena Fosuaa, who described herself as the direct sister of the MP’s mother, tearfully defended him against the allegations linked to his arrest.
Struggling to hold back tears during an interview with Ohene Media on May 14, 2026, she described the MP as a humble and hardworking person who had always shown kindness to people around him.
“For his character, he is a good man. Since childhood, he has never fought with anybody before. Even if he comes around and sees a child eating, he will join the person to eat. He does not discriminate. Just last Saturday, he came to distribute clothes to widows and mothers,” she said.
Abena Fosuaa also spoke about the financial support she had personally received from the MP over the years.
“He has been supporting me with money to farm maize, rice and other agricultural products. I was on my way to the farm when I was informed that he had been arrested. I have stayed with him for a long time, and he is not lazy. He is a hustler and can even carry water for money,” she recounted.
Overcome with emotion, she added, “He has done everything before except stealing.”
Although Parliament has confirmed the arrest of the NPP legislator, details surrounding his presence in the Netherlands remain unclear.
Earlier reports indicated that Frimpong was detained by Dutch authorities in connection with an investigation linked to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Sources familiar with the matter say the MP is being investigated over alleged financial crimes, including money laundering and suspected romance scams involving an estimated US$32 million.
