The newly elected leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has held its first meeting since the party’s National Delegate Conference. Still, newly elected First Vice Chairman Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo “Bamba,” was not present.
Kojo Bamba’s absence has drawn attention, coming just days after he emerged as the winner of a closely contested race for the First Vice Chairman position, defeating 12 other candidates at the party’s conference in Kumasi.
However, the NPP has explained that his absence was not linked to any internal party matter.
According to the party, Kojo Bamba had travelled and was therefore unable to attend the meeting.
While introducing the newly elected national leadership to party supporters, re-elected General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said Kojo Bamba was expected to be present but could not make it because he was out of the country.
The First Vice Chairman was also absent later in the day when the newly elected leadership met with the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on October 6, 2026.
Kojo Bamba secured 3,116 votes to win the First Vice Chairman position at the NPP’s National Delegate Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on October 3.
He finished ahead of former National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, who polled 3,061 votes, and former NPP Communications Director and former Managing Director of STC Nana Akomea, who obtained 2,987 votes.
Under the voting arrangement, the three candidates with the most votes were selected to fill the party’s three vice-chairmanship positions, while the remaining 10 contestants were eliminated.
Kojo Bamba’s victory placed him at the top of the new vice-chairmanship structure, with Henry Nana Boakye becoming Second Vice Chairman and Nana Akomea taking the Third Vice Chairman position.
The 13 candidates recorded the following results:
Kojo Fosu Boadu – 3,116 votes, First Vice Chairman
Henry Nana Boakye – 3,061 votes, Second Vice Chairman
Nana Akomea – 2,987 votes, Third Vice Chairman
Mustapha Abdul Hameed – 2,956 votes
Yaa Amponsah Frimpong – 1,503 votes
Richard Ahiagba – 1,001 votes
Alhaji Masawudu Osman – 890 votes
George Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah – 247 votes
Horma Miez – 232 votes
Samuel Pyne – 206 votes
Abena Pokua Boaitey Amoah – 194 votes
Richard Oti Aboagye – 152 votes
Bright Esselfie Kumi – 51 votes
Kojo Bamba’s absence from the first meetings of the newly elected leadership therefore comes as the new executives begin work following the party’s national conference.
The meetings mark the first formal engagements of the new leadership team since their election and are expected to set the tone for the party’s activities under the new executive structure.
