Man used his mother for rituals

A young man has recounted what he claims was a devastating experience after seeking spiritual rituals to improve his business, alleging that the practice was linked to the deaths of his mother and his sister’s unborn child.

In a video shared on October 7, 2026, the man said he travelled abroad and later returned to Ghana to visit his mother in the village, unaware of what he believed would be the consequences of the rituals he had undertaken.

He said he spent time with his mother during the visit, giving her gifts he had brought from abroad, cooking for her and sharing meals with her.

According to his account, his mother suddenly fell ill shortly after his visit.

“I travelled to see my mother in the village, and I gifted her things I brought with me from my travels abroad. I spent some time with her, cooked, and ate. After some time, my mother started getting sick. So, I left Accra to see her in the village, but she died a few days later at the age of 47 years,” he recounted.

Following her death, he said he and his senior brother began making arrangements to transport her remains to the mortuary.

It was during those preparations, he claimed, that he received a warning from what he described as the spirit associated with the rituals not to contribute money towards his mother’s burial.

“While at it, the spirit [from which I did the rituals] came to me and warned me not to give out any money for the burial. At that moment, I realised that my mother’s death was because of the ritual. I never had any issues with my mother when she was alive,” he said.

The man said his brother had already paid for a vehicle to transport the body, but the driver later required an additional GH¢10.

He said he had several bundles of GH¢10 notes with him and decided to pay the outstanding amount despite the warning he claimed to have received.

“When we finally got the vehicle, my brother paid the charges, but we needed change of GH₵10 for the driver. At the moment, I had several bundles of GH₵10 with me, but the spirit had warned me not to help with the burial arrangements,” he explained.

He said he then challenged the instruction and attempted to remove a single GH¢10 note from one of the bundles.

“I spoke back to the spirit and told it that I would pay the driver’s balance. I was the only person who could see it but the spirit turned its back to me. So, I decided to go against its order and pay the change of GH₵10. The moment I tried pulling the single note, the entire bundle fell to the ground,” he added.

According to him, those around him became suspicious because of his insistence on paying the small balance while his brother was searching from shop to shop for the money.

He further claimed that the rituals came with restrictions, including an instruction not to leave his home from Friday to Sunday.

That restriction, he said, initially prevented him from attending his mother’s funeral.

However, he later went to the funeral on a Saturday to make a payment, which he said further raised questions among his relatives about his behaviour.

“Part of the rules for the rituals was that I don’t go out from Friday to Sunday, so, I couldn’t attend my mother’s burial. But I later went on Saturday to make some payment. These strange behaviours I exhibited at the time exposed my deeds to my family,” he said.

He said his family eventually became aware that he had undergone rituals and that he later apologised and sought their forgiveness.

The man maintained that his intention had been to improve his business and make money, rather than cause harm to his family.

“I went in for the rituals to help my business, but I didn’t know it would take my mother’s life. Aside from my mother, the spirit also took the life of my sister’s unborn child,” he added.

His account remains an allegation and a personal description of what he believes happened after the rituals. There is no independent evidence in the account establishing that the deaths were caused by spiritual practices.
