Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah has completed a move to German club FC Köln after signing a two-year contract following his impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 27-year-old joined the Bundesliga side as a free agent after leaving French club AJ Auxerre.

FC Köln confirmed the signing on the club’s official Facebook page, showing Mensah signing his contract after completing the transfer.

The deal will keep the Ghana international at the club until 2028, with an option to extend his stay based on his performances.

Club officials had previously revealed that Mensah’s outstanding displays at the World Cup had convinced them to pursue his signature as they looked to strengthen their defence.

The left-back was one of Ghana’s standout performers at the tournament, producing a string of impressive displays throughout the Black Stars’ campaign.

His performance against England, where he effectively contained Arsenal wingers Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke, earned widespread praise from fans and football observers.

Mensah’s World Cup form attracted interest from FC Köln, who believe his experience and defensive qualities will strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.
