The National Communications Authority (NCA) has cleared three companies to proceed to the next stage of Ghana’s 5G spectrum licensing process, while disqualifying one of the four applicants that submitted bids.
The successful applicants are Scancom Plc, which operates MTN Ghana, Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited, operator of Telecel Ghana, and Goal Telecommunications Ltd.
The NCA said four applications were received before the August 27, 2026, 5 p.m. deadline and were subsequently subjected to an eligibility review and technical assessment.
Following the assessment, the regulator determined that three applicants had met the requirements to advance to the next phase.
In a statement issued on September 9, 2026, the NCA identified Infrava Ltd as the only applicant that failed to qualify.
The authority said all four applicants had been formally informed of the outcome of the assessment, with reasons provided where necessary.
The three qualified companies will now move into Stage 3 of the licensing process, which covers spectrum in the 700MHz, 2.3GHz and 3GHz frequency bands.
As part of the decision, the NCA said Infrava Ltd’s Envelope B submission would remain unopened following the company’s disqualification.
For the three successful applicants, the next step will involve the opening and ranking of their Best Price Offers. The NCA said it would communicate the date, time and venue for that process directly to the companies.
The latest development marks the conclusion of the qualification phase of the NCA’s Request for Applications for the 5G spectrum licences.
Attention will now turn to the final stages of the process, which are expected to determine which of the three qualified companies will secure spectrum in the designated bands.
The licensing is part of Ghana’s broader efforts to expand access to advanced mobile communication services and strengthen the country’s 5G infrastructure.
