Crystal Palace forward Eddie Nketiah is edging closer to completing his switch of international allegiance from England to Ghana ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara says the forward has begun the necessary process to make the change, with the relevant documentation already submitted to FIFA for consideration.

According to Sannie Daara, Nketiah is eager to complete the process as soon as possible as Ghana prepares for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

The forward, who previously played for Arsenal, is also said to be keen to make himself available for the Black Stars and give his best to the national team once the switch is formally approved.

Nketiah has recently recovered from a knock and is expected to return to training with his Crystal Palace teammates. The forward will be hoping to feature before the next international break as he looks to regain full match fitness.

The 27-year-old was one of the players linked with a possible Ghana switch ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, he did not eventually feature in the tournament, prompting considerable discussion among Ghanaian football supporters.

A successful change of allegiance would now make Nketiah eligible to represent the Black Stars, subject to the completion and approval of the process by FIFA.

Nketiah is not the only England international linked with a potential switch to Ghana.

Crystal Palace teammate Callum Hudson-Odoi has also expressed interest in representing the West African nation, although there has been no major update on his own process.

Both players have represented England at senior level but have not been part of recent Three Lions squads, leaving the door open for them to pursue international careers with Ghana.

With the 2027 AFCON qualifiers approaching, Ghana will be hoping Nketiah can complete his switch in time to strengthen Carlos Queiroz’s attacking options.
