Preaching in the Ability to See series on the Nkwagye Kwan radio program, Dr Kuuku Dadzie Ephraim said alcohol is widely used by people across Africa, the Western world and Asia in wedding celebrations, family gatherings, parties and various traditional or occult rituals.
He noted that in some Asian traditions, alcohol is also used in ancestral rites, libation, traditional marriages and offerings at household shrines and temple altars as a supposed link between the living, the dead and the spiritual realm.
According to Dr Kuuku Dadzie, these practices demonstrate the different ways alcohol is incorporated into the worship and rituals of people who serve other spiritual powers, while insisting that God does not require alcohol from those who worship Him.
He explained that genuine worshippers of God do not need alcohol to experience joy or express gratitude, because the Holy Spirit brings true joy, while thanksgiving can be expressed through words, material support or financial offerings.
Dr Kuuku Dadzie further stated that Christian marriages, child dedications and other sacred occasions should be committed to God through prayer rather than libation, warning that using alcohol in libation during a Christian wedding amounts to handing the marriage over to evil spirits.
He added that genuine Christians should use fruit juice rather than alcoholic wine during Holy Communion and rely on prayer rather than alcohol for healing, stressing that God’s people are called to worship Him without using alcohol in their spiritual practices.
