Heavy rains caused widespread flooding across parts of Accra

Heavy rains that began on Sunday, June 28, and continued into Monday, June 29, 2026, have caused widespread flooding across parts of Accra, submerging vehicles, disrupting traffic and inundating homes in several communities.

At Tse Addo, several vehicles parked in front of apartment buildings were almost completely submerged after floodwaters rose rapidly following the downpour.

The flooding also affected major roads across the capital, causing severe traffic congestion during the Monday morning rush hour as several routes became impassable or partially flooded.

Areas affected include the N1 Highway, Apenkwa, Tesano, the Accra-Kasoa stretch, Weija, Mallam, Achimota, Spintex, Adabraka, Atomic (Madina), Kaneshie, Darkuman Junction and sections of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.

In several of these areas, motorists were forced to drive through deep floodwaters, while others abandoned their vehicles after they became stranded.

Some homes and shops in flood-prone communities were also inundated, forcing residents to move their belongings to safer locations as water levels continued to rise.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Meteorological Agency has forecast more rainfall across coastal and inland parts of the country.

According to the agency, rain and thunderstorms are expected to persist throughout the forecast period, with patches of mist or fog likely over forested and mountainous areas.

It also warned that a weak to moderate rainstorm observed along the Togo–Benin coastline is moving westward and is expected to trigger more thunderstorms and rainfall over southern Ghana.

The Ministry of the Interior has advised motorists to avoid flooded roads and urged residents in flood-prone communities to remain vigilant, warning that further rainfall could worsen the situation.
