Private legal practitioner and National Democratic Congress (NDC) member Hamza Suhuyini has called for an investigation into claims by former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong that a leading NDC figure once offered his wife a multi-million-dollar contract in exchange for a kickback.
Agyapong recently alleged that during a previous NDC administration, an individual approached his wife with a contract worth between $55 million and $58 million and demanded an advance payment of about seven percent before the deal could be awarded.
Reacting to the claim during a panel discussion on TV3’s New Day on June 22, 2026, Suhuyini said the allegation should not be ignored, especially given the government’s commitment to fighting corruption.
“I expect those mandated with our laws to invite Kennedy Ohene Agyapong to substantiate the allegations. I’m interested in the allegation to the effect that a leading member of the ruling NDC made an offer to his wife.
“I’m interested; we need to know because this is a government that has vowed to deal decisively with corruption and since his assumption of office as president, President Mahama has shown fidelity and commitment to that promise and so if indeed these allegations are anything to go by, there’s a need for us to know,” he said.
Suhuyini noted that Agyapong’s broader argument that corruption exists within both major political parties was a point worth discussing.
“Ken also makes the point that look, for NDC and NPP we are the same. He is concerned about the future of the youth of this country and that is a fair point. If this country is actually what we believe it is now, especially under this current administration, then I believe it is working,” he stated.
He, however, suggested that Agyapong may have mentioned the NDC to balance criticism he had directed at the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“Let the political leaders who made such an offer [be exposed]… but I can assure you that he dragged in the National Democratic Congress into the matter when he realized that he was talking too much about the NPP. He knew that the NPP would come after him that’s why he brought that equalization because you can’t say for a fact,” Suhuyini added.
His comments come after Agyapong warned that he could reveal more information about alleged corruption within Ghana’s political system if party members continue to attack him over his recent remarks.
