The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has declared that no individual or group can overpower Asanteman, stressing that the authority of the Golden Stool is rooted in unity and responsible leadership rather than intimidation.
Addressing members of the Asante community in Toronto on June 20, 2026, the Asantehene said he does not use the power vested in the Golden Stool to coerce chiefs or subjects, despite the influence associated with the institution.
According to him, leadership within Asanteman must be guided by humility, honesty and mutual respect.
“I have instructed them (chiefs) not to serve me out of fear and intimidation, but to serve me with honesty,” he stated.
The Asantehene explained that the authority of the Golden Stool is intended to promote unity and strengthen traditional governance rather than instill fear among those under his leadership.
He further emphasised the enduring strength and influence of Asanteman, noting that its position remains unshaken.
“No one can overpower Asanteman. However, I don’t use the power in the Golden Stool to intimidate anyone,” he said.
His remarks highlighted the importance of responsible leadership and the need for traditional rulers to lead through integrity and service rather than force.
The address formed part of his engagement with the Asante community in Canada, where he reaffirmed the values of unity, honesty and respect that continue to guide Asanteman.
