Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, has been declared the winner of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The primary, held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, was organized to select the party’s candidate for the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election following the passing of the late MP, Mahama Naser Toure.
Primary Results:
- Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed – 431 votes
- Hajia Amina Adam – 399 votes
- Mohammed Ramme – 88 votes
- Dr. Yakubu Azindow – 45 votes
- Mohammed Najib Sani – 1 vote
The closely contested primary drew significant attention, with discussions emerging around campaign conduct. During the election, Baba Jamal’s campaign distributed items including 32-inch televisions and boiled eggs to delegates. He described the gestures as acts of goodwill, insisting they were not intended to influence voting.
After his victory, Baba Jamal called for party unity, stressing that the win belongs to all NDC members in the constituency.
“With this win, I am committed to working together with all party members to secure the seat in the Ayawaso East by-election,” he stated.
Celebrations erupted across the constituency as delegates and supporters welcomed the result, marking the beginning of preparations for the party’s campaign ahead of the by-election.
