The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that it will fully finance the medical treatment of Black Stars midfielder Francis Abu following his recent injury and surgery.

According to the GFA’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, the association has assumed complete responsibility for the expenses after Abu sustained a serious injury while on international duty.

Abu, who features for Toulouse FC, suffered a broken ankle during Ghana’s Kirin Cup match last Friday in Nagoya, Japan. The midfielder was visibly in pain as he was stretchered off the pitch, prompting swift medical attention from the team’s medical staff.

He was later transferred to Toyota Memorial Hospital, where he successfully underwent ankle surgery. The procedure was completed without complications, and the GFA subsequently issued an official statement updating the public on his condition.

The association’s rapid intervention and willingness to cover all medical costs underscore its commitment to player welfare. By taking on the financial burden, the GFA aims to ensure Abu receives top-tier treatment without worry or distraction.

Supporters and football stakeholders have applauded the gesture and are optimistic about Abu’s recovery. The GFA has assured the public that it will continue to closely monitor his rehabilitation as he works toward returning to competitive action.
