The Ashanti Region has emerged champions of the 2025 KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship, defeating defending champions Western Region 2-1 in a pulsating final to claim their second title.
Now in its fifth edition, the championship has cemented its place as Ghana’s premier stage for unearthing and nurturing football talent, with this year’s tournament living up to its billing.
Tournament Highlights
- Star Performer: Jeremiah Abalo (Greater Accra) was named Overall Best Player, despite his side missing out on the medal spots.
- Goal Kings: Ashanti duo Agyei Duah and Alidu Issah shared the Top Scorer Award, each netting seven goals.
- Safe Hands: Western Region’s Frank Abu won the Best Goalkeeper Award for his commanding displays.
- Rising Star: Ashanti’s Kelvin Baffoe took home the Most Promising Player accolade.
With representation from all ten Regional Football Associations and two GFA Elite Academies, the 12-team competition was fiercely contested, offering young talents a golden platform to shine.
Beyond the silverware, the tournament continues to serve as a vital pathway for scouting and grooming players for Ghana’s national youth teams, while also providing Premier League and Division One clubs with a rich pool of emerging stars.
Backed by a landmark five-year, $1 million partnership with the KGL Foundation, the U-17 Championship remains a cornerstone of the Ghana Football Association’s grassroots football development agenda—shaping the next generation of Black Stars.
