A family in Mpraeso Amanfrom in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region is calling for a thorough investigation into the death of 14-year-old Junior High School student Keziah Mirekua, who reportedly set herself ablaze at a school park.

Keziah, a final-year student of Mpraeso Amanfrom Basic School, reportedly suffered severe burns in the incident before later dying. The circumstances surrounding what happened remain unclear, with members of her family giving differing accounts of claims that pregnancy-related issues may have been involved.

Her grandmother, Christiana Nkansah, told the media that the family had been informed that the incident might have been connected to allegations of pregnancy involving a young man who allegedly denied responsibility.

Nkansah also said Keziah reportedly made certain disclosures while receiving treatment at the hospital.

However, the teenager’s mother and sister have disputed claims that she was pregnant. In separate media interviews, they acknowledged that Keziah was reportedly in a relationship with a young man but maintained that she was not expecting a child.

The disagreement among family members has raised questions about what led up to the incident. Some relatives suspect other factors may have contributed to the tragedy and are urging authorities to establish what happened.

The family says a comprehensive investigation is needed to clarify the circumstances surrounding Keziah’s death and address the conflicting accounts.

For now, the allegations concerning a possible pregnancy remain disputed and have not been established as the cause of the incident. The family is awaiting answers as it mourns the loss of the young student.
