The difference can be striking even across relatively short distances. A trip from Nima to Cantonments, for instance, may take about 15 minutes, yet the rental market changes dramatically along the way. A room that goes for around GH¢350 in one area can be replaced by houses advertised for an average of about GH¢71,000 a month in another.
The appeal of these high-end neighbourhoods is not difficult to understand. They offer proximity to embassies, business districts, international schools, restaurants, hospitals, the airport and some of the city’s most exclusive properties.

- Cantonments
Cantonments remains one of the most sought-after residential areas in Accra, particularly among diplomats, expatriates and senior corporate executives.
The neighbourhood is known for its embassies, spacious properties, quiet streets and convenient location. But living there comes at a considerable cost.
Houses listed on meQasa have an average advertised rent of about GH¢71,000 per month, while apartments average roughly GH¢34,000.
Some individual properties are priced far above those averages. One house, for example, is advertised at almost GH¢954,000 a month, showing how luxury listings can significantly influence the area’s rental figures.
- Airport Residential Area
Airport Residential Area attracts people who want to combine convenience with upscale living.
Its location puts residents close to Kotoka International Airport, Airport City and several major corporate offices. It is also one of Accra’s prominent high-value property markets.
According to the available listings, 783 apartments in the area have an average advertised rent of about GH¢40,136 per month.
The listings cover a wide range of properties, including relatively modest apartments and high-end serviced units, meaning actual rental costs can vary significantly from one property to another.
- Ridge
Ridge, including North Ridge and West Ridge, is another established high-end residential area in the capital.
Its appeal comes partly from its location near government offices and the central business areas. The neighbourhood is also known for large, older houses and limited available land for new development.
Apartments listed in Ridge have an average advertised rent of about GH¢35,831 per month.
However, asking prices vary widely, with listings ranging from around GH¢3,000 to as much as GH¢230,400 per month.
- Labone
Labone offers a different kind of attraction. The area combines a largely residential environment with easy access to restaurants, cafes, shops and other commercial facilities.
Its location also places residents within a short distance of Osu and Cantonments, making it popular among people who want access to Accra’s social and business centres without living directly in the busiest parts of the city.

As with other neighbourhoods, however, the actual amount tenants pay depends heavily on the size, condition and type of property.
- East Legon
East Legon is one of Accra’s larger and more diverse upscale neighbourhoods.

Dzorwulu has evolved considerably over the years. Once largely recognised as a quiet residential neighbourhood, it now combines homes with a growing presence of offices and commercial activity.
Its location and accessibility have helped maintain demand for accommodation.
Apartments advertised in Dzorwulu have an average monthly rent of about GH¢22,225.
- Adjiringanor
Located east of East Legon, Adjiringanor has attracted buyers and tenants interested in newer houses and gated developments.
The area has 254 listed houses with an average advertised rent of about GH¢28,285 per month.
But the average does not tell the whole story. Asking prices range from approximately GH¢4,632 to GH¢140,088 a month, depending on the property.
- Osu
Osu stands out from many of the quieter luxury neighbourhoods on the list.
It is a lively part of Accra, filled with restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and visitors. Its central location also makes it attractive to people looking for short-term accommodation.
Apartments listed in Osu have an average advertised rent of about GH¢10,363 per month, making it less expensive than several of the other areas featured.
- Airport City
Airport City is better known for its office buildings, hotels and commercial activity than traditional residential living.
However, the area also has serviced apartments, making it an attractive option for professionals who work nearby, frequent travellers and people who value proximity to the airport.
Larger homes in the wider airport area are estimated to rent for between $2,500 and $4,000 per month.
What the figures really mean
The rental figures provide an indication of what landlords are asking, rather than a guarantee of what every tenant pays.
Even within the same neighbourhood, prices can vary considerably depending on the property’s size, location, facilities, furnishing, security and condition.
The amount a tenant ultimately pays can also depend on negotiations with the landlord and the upfront amount required before moving into the property.
For prospective tenants, therefore, the advertised average is only a starting point. The final cost of securing a home in Accra’s most expensive neighbourhoods can be considerably different from the headline figure.
