The United States government has issued a strong warning to fraudsters following the arrest and extradition of several Ghanaians allegedly linked to romance scam operations targeting elderly victims in the US.
Assistant Attorney General for Fraud Encroachment, Colin McDonald, said American authorities are intensifying efforts to track down offenders and recover stolen funds.
In a video shared on X on May 21, 2026, McDonald stated that anyone involved in fraudulent activities would eventually face prosecution.
“We are doing everything we can to find you, and when we do, we will prosecute you, and we will claw back every dollar you have stolen from the American people,” he said.
According to him, the crackdown on fraud-related crimes will continue until offenders are brought to justice and all illegal gains are recovered.
“We will not rest until every fraudster knows that the cost of stealing from the American people is far higher than any scheme is worth,” he stated.
McDonald further warned suspected fraudsters to enjoy their freedom while it lasts because law enforcement agencies are closing in on them.
“And now my message to the fraudsters is this, eat, drink, and be merry today because your days of frolicking and freedom are numbered,” he added.
The warning comes amid increased cooperation between US authorities and international law enforcement agencies to combat online fraud, romance scams and financial crimes.
