Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is set to appear before the Federal Court in Ottawa on Monday as he seeks to overturn a decision denying him entry into Canada ahead of the Black Stars’ opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Court documents indicate that an application for leave and judicial review was filed on June 15, 2026, under case number IMM-12882-26.

The case, classified as an immigration matter arising outside Canada, is scheduled to be heard in Ottawa at 1:00 pm GMT.

The outcome of the hearing could have a significant impact on Ghana’s World Cup preparations, with the Black Stars due to face Panama in their Group Stage opener at 11:00 pm GMT on June 17, less than 36 hours after the court proceedings.

Partey has been regarded as one of Ghana’s most influential players and was expected to play a key role in the team’s campaign.

His absence would be a major setback for the Black Stars as they look to make a strong start to the tournament.

Ghana’s squad is currently finalising preparations ahead of the clash with Panama before taking on tougher tests later in the competition.

The court’s decision is expected to determine whether Partey will be able to join his teammates in Canada in time for the opening stages of the World Cup.
