Brazilian giants Flamengo have identified Dutch international of Ghanaian descent Memphis Depay as one of their top transfer targets during the current transfer window.
According to Africasoccer.com, Flamengo have already submitted an official offer to sign the experienced forward, whose contract with fellow Brazilian club Corinthians is set to expire at the end of July.
Depay made a surprise move to Brazil in September 2024 after leaving Spanish side Atletico Madrid, signing a two-year deal with Corinthians. He quickly established himself as one of the club’s standout performers and helped them lift the Campeonato Paulista title in March 2025 after a victory over rivals Palmeiras.
Despite an impressive start to life in Brazil, the 32-year-old’s progress was later hampered by injury setbacks, limiting his appearances and affecting his consistency during the current campaign.
Flamengo are now hoping to take advantage of his contract situation by securing the former Manchester United and Barcelona forward on a free transfer.
The Rio de Janeiro-based club reportedly views Depay’s experience and quality as a major boost to its attacking options ahead of the remainder of the season.
A move would see the Netherlands international remain in Brazilian football while switching to one of South America’s most successful clubs.
Depay boasts an impressive résumé, having played for PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid before beginning his South American adventure with Corinthians. He has also enjoyed a distinguished international career with the Netherlands.
Although Corinthians would be reluctant to lose one of their most experienced players, the club could struggle to keep him if Flamengo reaches an agreement before his contract expires.
Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks as Flamengo pushes to complete the signing.
Depay has made eight appearances this season, scoring once as injuries restricted his playing time. Since arriving at Corinthians, he has registered 20 goals and 15 assists in 79 appearances across all competitions.
