FIFA has officially unveiled the Team of the Tournament for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with several of the competition’s biggest performers, including Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland and Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, earning places in the final XI.
The selected team recognises the outstanding contributions of players during the expanded 48-team tournament, which ended with Spain defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final to secure their second World Cup title.
France forward Kylian Mbappé leads the attack after an exceptional campaign that saw him finish as the tournament’s top scorer with 10 goals, earning him the Golden Boot. The French captain also recorded four assists and surpassed the previous World Cup scoring record during the competition.
Argentina skipper Lionel Messi was included in the squad after playing a key role in his country’s run to the final. Despite losing the title decider to Spain, the veteran forward continued to influence matches with his creativity and leadership.
Norway striker Erling Haaland also earned a place in the team following his impressive performances, helping his country reach the knockout stages of the tournament.
One of the biggest surprises in the Best XI was Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, who was recognised after producing a series of remarkable saves that played a major role in the Blue Sharks’ historic debut World Cup campaign.
World champions Spain had three representatives in the team, with defender Pedro Porro, left-back Marc Cucurella and midfielder Rodri all making the list after their crucial contributions to La Roja’s successful title run.
England midfielder Jude Bellingham was also selected after helping the Three Lions secure a third-place finish, while France defender Dayot Upamecano, Argentina centre-back Lisandro Martínez and France winger Michael Olise completed the tournament’s best XI.
The selection highlights the players who made the biggest impact during one of the most competitive World Cups in history.
