The Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge), Dr. Leslie Issa Adam-Zakariah, has issued an urgent appeal for support to retool and enhance the hospital’s specialized care units, specifically focusing on the childhood cancer and maternal health departments.

His appeal emphasized the critical need for additional resources to maintain high-quality care at the tertiary facility.

According to him, the hospital’s management has identified several departments that require immediate assistance to ease the financial and operational burden seeking specialized equipment and funding to bridge the gap between diagnosis and treatment for young cancer patients.

He said they are aiming to improve survival rates for women and children through better infrastructure and medical supplies.

He also highlighted the high volume of emergency trauma patients who often require expensive care and implants they cannot afford.

Dr. Adam-Zakariah concluded that the hospital is working with international partners, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), to meet minimum standards for cancer care and improve access to essential medicines.
